Zombies. If only it were possible to convey everything that the word 'zombie' meant by the mere writing down of the word. The truth of the matter is that just won't happen. There will exist some people that will be left with some questions. What is a zombie? How do I distinguish a human (Homo Sapiens) from a zombie (Zombi Sapiens)? Could a zombie exist in reality? Do zombies exist in reality? Should I be prepared for a zombie apocalypse?[This is a trick question; You should always be prepared]
If one were capable of answering some or all of these questions, well there would be no need to have something like this blog. There are probably very few things in this world that can be understood entirely only by the reading of the word. Quite simply, since you've meandered your way this far there must exist at least some level of curiosity as to the aforementioned questions relating to zombies, and probably many others like them. The Geezer and I are just two people with such a curiosity for answering various philosophical questions pertaining to zombies. It is my intent that this blog tracks our intellectual ping-pong match, whether with ourselves, each other, or 'professionals' in the field.
Speaking of 'professionals' , let me introduce myself. [That was a joke, I'm not a professional]. I'm a graduating student from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and my degree is in Philosophy and Political Science. I owe most of what you will read to my background in Philosophy, that is to say I'm mostly concerned with the philosophical questions raised by the possible zombie. At some point, however, I intend to write about things that may involve the use of my background in Political Science [Zombie Party in 2012, anyone?].
The most important thing that you, the reader, should take away from your time spent here is that by no means should anything be taken 'sacred'. What I mean by this is that the very nature of the arguments here (those discussing zombies) cannot at this time be proven. The Geezer and I don't have a zombie in our backyards that we can observe shambling back and forth in search of brains. It's most likely the case that you don't either. With that out of the way, I ask that you challenge what we say. If something doesn't sound quite right to you, tell us about it. If I learned anything from studying Philosophy is that you shouldn't immediately discredit anything anyone else says. This is definitely something I would hope to impart through this blog.
